Today's Discussion is on..National Something Or Other Day!
Part 2 - National Vegetarian Day (and also the start of October...Happy Start to Inktober!)
That was a long introduction...apologies for that. But, how excited are we? It's October! So, now it really is fall! Because my birthday is in September and I love the summer, I always count September as still being summer, which was hard to do when I was in grade school as school always started back up in my month. MY month. Anyways, let's talk about vegetarianism and then more about October's Inktober.
So, if you didn't know by my previous posts, twitch streams, tweets, etc., yours truly has been a vegetarian for...about seven months now. If you are like every other person in my life, you'd ask the five W's - where, what, when, why and how? My dad just skipped all those and just kept offering me meat every chance he could get (I have to remind him EVERY time I eat with him or around him that, yes dad, I'm still a vegetarian). By people in my life by the way, I mean my friends and family of course, but like strangers too who take my food orders at fast food places.
Whenever I enter a Subway or another sub-making chain, I order the weirdest sandwich. So, I guess maybe the sandwich maker is allowed to give me a strange look, but I've also gotten comments. Like, please leave your criticism out of your sandwich making, you may on accident spit on my toasted bread. Here is a typical sandwich order in the life of glimmer:
Wheat Bread
Provolone Cheese
Swiss Cheese
Toasted (Please)
Mayo
Honey Mustard/Djorn Mustard/Yellow Mustard
Tomatoes
Salt and Pepper
Oregano
(Thank You)
And when I write it all out, it actually looks like a lot! But, still, I get the eyes, the snorts, the "is that it"s all the time. I'm not joking. I even stopped going to this Subway by my house because I was SO sick of them being rude to me. Many people find it strange that I'm a vegetarian without liking lettuce. Arugula is okay, but I prefer my sandwiches with cheese and more cheese. I said I'm a vegetarian NOT a vegan. That would make life a lot more difficult.
But, as I was told by several people and beat their expectations, I could do it. I could become a vegetarian, and it was pretty damn easy. As long as I don't smell bacon every morning, I rarely ever think about eating meat ever again. Sure, I have a few cheat days once in a while (I had Wendy's I think...two days ago?) but a little meat here and there doesn't hurt. Well...it does hurt. But my cheat days have become less and less as time has gone on. Soon, I won't ever need a cheat day nor want one!
If you are considering going vegetarian or vegan, I recommend start by just making some recipes that sound interesting to you. I'm about to try making celery soup without milk and instead coconut milk (soup is the BEST for fall weather). Then, slowly, gradually, get into cutting out your meat intake. Find healthy food options you love to snack on, and snack more. I eat a ton of cheese still (which isn't too healthy), but also way more vegetables and nuts than I used to. I rarely snack on potato chips or cookies (and when I do - they were on sale at the grocery store). Cutting out wheat is next on my list, but that's a whole other beast to tackle.
Let's move on to Inktober. If you don't know what it is, its a challenge for artists to draw and 'ink' (thanks to Photoshop, who really does this any more?) a picture once a day. What a challenge! I believe I tried this challenge last year, but could only draw for about three days. Drawing takes up WAY more time than writing, so sorry Inktober, but I will be skipping out for another year. I have too much going on with interviews, writing, streaming with all the technical issues I've been running into as of late, playing games, creating assets for a game I'm interested in making, binge watching TV (what? I JUST got into Stranger Things) and pursuing my love life and family life. Glimmer had a life - who knew?
Seriously though, if you like to draw or are interested in Inktober. Get into it! There are great communities online who actually will support your OCs (or at least pretend they care) and you should support their work as well. Watch your favorite artists on deviantart, Tumblr, Facebook or wherever, because most likely they will be participating (and then selling their work afterwards for that sweet, sweet buckage)! It's a fun month and I can't wait to see what you all can do. Feel free to post any of your artwork on my blog and we will take a look-see! I promise I won't be too harsh! ;)
Love,
glimmer
