Part 5: Crate Crash - Coasters
For Part 5, we take a look at the $10 three pack of Crate coasters included in the Crash Crate. As you can see from the above image, the coasters are bright colors and stand out, especially on my black coffee table. They are also very big and could easily hold a large McDonald's cup. I will talk more in-depth about the size late. You know the drill, I will also conclude today's post explaining if I think they are worth the price point listed on the packaging strip done by numskull's marketing team no doubtingly.
Let's talk about the material these three coasters are made of. As soon as you touch one, you will know exactly what what the material is - it is rubber! Sorry, I guess you can't touch them if you haven't gotten your hands on a Crash Crate yet. The rubber is flexible and sticks nicely to firm surfaces. I've never had a coaster made of rubber before, only stone, glass and plastic. I won't make this into a big material war like the last post, but I will at least go into if I think rubber is a good idea to make a coaster out of.
Coasters can be made out of many different materials, but my favorite have always been cork, because it doesn't stick to the drink or the table and they are light. Cork coasters, however, don't have creative designs. These coasters are the cheapest, from $6-$11 a pack of six on Amazon, where the rubber coaster set of six on Amazon ranged from $6-13. The price ranges are close, but the rubber are a tad more expensive. The rubber coasters we are talking about, however, must have been more expensive due to their paint and size.
Have you ever had a coaster that stuck to the bottom of your cup if it bled? Many fountain drink cups from fast food places have this problem, including Popeyes. I always get a drink with their combo meal and the cup that comes standard is huge. It also always bleeds because I can't drink it fast enough. I don't have a cup to test this with right now, but I can confirm that these coasters are sturdy enough to not glue to the bottom of your bleeding cup. I'm at least 95% sure!
The three images of these coasters are - TNT, Nitro and Crate. I would argue that these three crate designs are the most common and recognizable of the boxes Crash can break. Two out of three are hazardous to Crash, however, so be careful when you set down your drink on them! A life box would have been cool to see too, with Crash's face on it. I'm not a huge fan of the regular Crate's color, as it is a dark brown and not orange like in the original game, but it looks good with the other two that are very bright colors. The detail is also very nice, as you can see from the etching of the TNT crate coaster.
How about we move onto the size of these guys? They are all the same size, with the different patterns - TNT, Nitro and Crate. The above picture shows the size of the coasters in relation to my hand, but it doesn't do them justice. Here are some more images:
Here's a standard size cup (my tiki glass seemed appropriate)! This cup is a bit taller than a standard one, but as you can see it fits nicely on the coaster.
I put a standard size bowl on the Nitro coaster. Also, I enjoyed some sherbet. See how it also fts nicely on the coaster?
Finally, here is a jug of pink lemonade ontop of the coaster. It still fits! Sometimes I like to drink straight out of the carton when its down to the final drops of the drink. These coasters will be able to handle my weirdness!
For the last size comparison, here are my normal coasters, made of recycled pots, and the sizes of the same drinks. You can see that the jug doesn't really fit on these ones.
Real quick - this is the last image I took of the day. This is the back of the coaster, which we have mostly discussed before. However, a new addition of a "RubberRoad.co.uk" is here in text, saying where these coasters were manufactured. I'll have to do a bit more research on this company to see how sustainable it is with its resources.
Sorry that this post was mostly pictures and too much writing, but I honestly don't have much to say about these guys. They are great and in my opinion, definitely worth the $10 dollars. I'd even spend $15 on them! I can't wait to add them to my desk, I will probably take the green Nitro one to work to be alongside my other Crash Bandicoot goodies.
As always, thanks for reading (or in this case, viewing)!
Love,
glimmer
